Breaking From Routine and Igniting Creativity

Going into my seventh year in business, it’s pretty safe to say I have a routine of shooting weddings and portraits down to a science. My results are unanimously consistent, and the end results are happy clients. This means I am doing my job well, and boy do I enjoy it. I enjoy working with each and every one of my clients, and although my work remains consistent I always aim to achieve new and creative results per each client.

Sometimes when you fall into a routine things can become mundane. So it is crucial that creatives, such as myself, have an outlet to spark creativity. I do this by scheduling monthly styled shoots. Styled shoots allow me to pick a theme and location that will inspire me to grow in my trade. I get to work with amazing vendors, and of course I get amazing images I can include in some of my portfolio.

This session was so much fun! The “LOVE” sign was created by Oak Tree Wedding Rentals. I love how it adds a little something different and unique to the photos! The swing was compliments of Vale Creations. This was so complimentary to what I was envisioning for this particular styled shoot. Beauty by BriLen did a fabulous job on the hair and makeup of our sweet model, Shawna Daly. The dress, believe it or not, came from a vintage store! All these elements combines made for a memorable shoot and awesome photos.

It’s so important to break from normal routines. Photographers need to be able to shoot for themselves too or they will burn out! Shooting what you love keeps a healthy balance and will remind you why you love what you do (in case you forgot). Now, with all this said, it is so important that your portfolios aren’t overladen with styled shoots. Yes, it’s great to add a few to your website, BUT real clients want and need to see REAL weddings.

Here’s a few from this styled shoot. Enjoy!
